Hospital staff showered petals on Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, as he left a Bombay hospital after recovering from a bowel infection.
The 66-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner walked out without help from aides and left for a hotel in Bombay.
“I feel much better,” he told a crowd of reporters at the hospital, where he was treated for seven days. Doctors said he could resume normal duties and travel after two days.
Revered by Tibetans as the reincarnation of a long line of Buddhist rulers, the Dalai Lama has been on antibiotic treatment since entering the hospital.
