Ethnic Double Standard?

Marshall Fine reports that Halle Berry is “the daughter of an African American father and a white mother” (“A New Level of Comfort,” Jan. 2). If it is no longer politically correct to call people black, then why aren’t we informed as to the ethnic heritage of Berry’s mother? Is she Irish, English, French, German, Swedish, Italian, Croat, Spanish, Portuguese or some mixture of the above? All of those are unique cultures and not very well described by the term “white.”

Can you say double standard?
