Man Who Killed 2 at Shipyard Gets Life Term

With jurors deadlocked over a proposed death sentence, Seattle’s “shipyard shooter”--who killed two men in 1999 and wounded two others--drew a life sentence with no chance of parole.
The jury split after lawyers for Kevin Cruz, 32, claimed he was mentally ill and therefore could not receive the death sentence requested by King County prosecutors, a court official said.
Cruz was convicted last month of the shootings at a Seattle shipyard where he once worked. Prosecutors said vengeance motivated Cruz, who blamed the shipyard when his disability benefits were cut off.
