Baby Sitter Allegedly Beat 6-Month-Old Boy

From Times Staff Reports

A baby sitter was arrested Friday after a 6-month-old boy in her care suffered a fractured skull, police said.

Martha Morales, 28, was being held at Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony child abuse.

“There was possible blunt force trauma severely to the head,” said Jim Amormino, Orange County sheriff’s spokesman.

The boy’s parents took him to Morales’ home on Via Santa Maria before they went to work Thursday morning, Amormino said. When Morales’ husband came home, he found Morales giving CPR to the baby and called 911, he said.

The infant was in critical condition Friday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

“We’re still investigating what happened, but the baby was in perfectly good health when he was dropped off,” Amormino said.
