Listening for the Future

In response to your article “How Not to Open a Hall” (by Mark Swed, March 3), I note that the Los Angeles Philharmonic is symbolically performing Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony” as its closing piece in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

That causes one to wonder what the inaugural piece might be in Frank Gehry’s architectural atrocity, Disney Hall. Anything by Stockhausen?

There’s only one choice suitably impressive to open the Disney. The first American performance of Havergal Brian’s monumental and astounding “Gothic” symphony.
