Government Denies It Invited Clinton

NORTH KOREA
North Korea denied that it had invited former President Bill Clinton to visit and help cool off U.S. rhetoric toward the communist state.
A North Korean official told Reuters on Monday that the North’s leader, Kim Jong Il, hoped that Clinton could play a mediating role.
In a statement Tuesday, the North Korean Foreign Ministry denied issuing such an invitation. “Reuters of Britain reported that [the North] has invited former U.S. President Clinton to Pyongyang. In this regard, we make it clear that no such invitation has been made,” said the statement, issued by the state-run Korea Central News Agency.
