8 Recovering After Papua Mine Ambush

Eight workers injured in an ambush near a U.S.-operated gold mine in the Indonesian province of Papua were recovering in a Townsville, Australia, hospital. Officials at the hospital said the workers were all in stable condition. Two Americans and an Indonesian were killed in the Saturday shootings.

The patients were believed to be six Americans and two Indonesians. Two others who were injured were taken to Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.

Troops said one man they killed Sunday in a gunfight was believed to have been among about 15 rebels who took part in the ambush.
