“Charter School Students Scoring Below Their Public Peers, Study Finds” (Sept. 2) would have done well to point out the vast difference in funding between these innovative public schools of choice and the traditional public schools. In California our charter schools struggle along with about 60% of the per-student funding of our traditional public schools. This helps to put into context both the slightly lower test scores in charter schools as well as the comment about charter schools’ higher rate of failure for financial reasons.
