The family trip

Loved Chris Erskine’s column (“My Family Vacation,” Aug. 7). I think we’ve all [experienced] that [closed-in] feeling at one time or another.

Chris Erskine’s tasteless article (“The Stuff Trips Are Made Of,” July 31) is bordering on animal cruelty.

He refers to the family cat as “that miserable cat,” and to compound his ignorance the cartoon depicts a poor cat riding loosely atop ... the car roof.

If Erskine must take the cat along, ... why not show a carry-out box?
