U.S. Urged to Address Safety at Nuclear Plant

From Staff and Wire Reports

The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution urging federal regulators to address safety concerns before renewing the operating license of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.

The resolution, submitted to supervisors by San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace, passed 3 to 2 on Tuesday.

The vote puts the board on record as opposing relicensing until the Nuclear Regulatory Commission addresses local concerns about vulnerabilities of the plant and its spent-fuel storage facilities to acts of terrorism and sabotage.
