California’s election code is silent on the question of what identifying information should be listed alongside a candidate’s name on the recall ballot.
Officials in the secretary of state’s office decided to include party affiliation as a way to give voters more information.
“We thought it would be in the best interests of the voters,” said Terri Carbaugh, assistant secretary of state. “We wanted to give people as much clarity as possible.”
