City Seeks to Hinder Garage Conversions

The city wants to make garage conversions illegal.
The City Council voted 3-2 on Monday night to endorse a parking ordinance requiring homeowners to build a replacement garage if they convert garages into other uses. There are similar rules in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria.
The city ordinance would effectively shut down garage conversions because most free-standing homes in Goleta sit on modest lots with no space for another garage.
