Parole Board Funding, Restructuring Approved

The state Senate unanimously agreed Monday to give $1.55 million to the board that controls paroles of young criminals, but also reduced its powers.
SB 459, by Senate President Pro Tem John Burton (D-San Francisco), is expected to pass the Assembly and be signed into law by Gov. Gray Davis.
Under the bill, the board would shift some responsibility to the California Youth Authority, but not as much as Burton proposed last year.
