No Position on Postwar Role

From Times Wire Reports

NATO has no position yet on whether it will have a role in postwar Iraq and the issue is unlikely to be decided until the situation becomes clearer, NATO Secretary-General George Robertson said.

“There is no NATO position in relation to operations in Iraq,” Robertson told reporters after a closed-door conference on Ukraine’s relationship with the alliance.

The issue of NATO having a role in Iraq was raised during a meeting of the alliance’s foreign ministers in Brussels last month, he said. Foreign ministers are hoping to discuss a role when the situation is clearer, he said.
