Nestle’s Poland Spring Expects to Settle Suit

Nestle asked a state judge in Illinois to approve a $12-million settlement of a class-action lawsuit claiming that its Poland Spring water is not naturally pure spring water from the Maine woods.

The lawsuit is one of 12 pending class-action lawsuits making similar claims about Poland Spring. The settlement, if approved by the judge, would require Nestle to provide customers with discounts and coupons, donate almost $3 million to charity and perform various water-quality tests.

The class-action complaint claims that Poland Spring isn’t what it claims to be because it doesn’t come from deep in the Maine woods, protected sources or even a spring.

Poland Spring has countered that the water is from four springs, even though it may be collected from wells.
