U.S. and North Korea in High-Level Talks

From Times Wire Reports

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun discussed the nuclear standoff on the Korean peninsula in the highest-level meeting between their two countries in two years, a State Department spokesman said.

“They discussed proposals that each side put forward at the last round of six-party talks,” Richard Boucher said of the meeting in Jakarta. The earlier talks, involving the U.S., the two Koreas, China, Japan and Russia, ended Saturday in Beijing with the parties agreeing to meet again by the end of September.
