From a Times Staff Writer

For the third straight day, Californians consumed a record amount of electricity Wednesday, but the state weathered the heavy demand without major power emergencies.

Peak demand hit 44,360 megawatts, besting the previous day’s record demand of 44,330 megawatts, according to the California Independent System Operator, which runs the transmission grid for 75% of the state.
