Halliburton Probe and GOP Hypocrisy

Re “Grand Jury Steps Up Inquiry Into Possible Halliburton Ties to Iran,” July 21: President Bush’s campaign spokesman, Steve Schmidt, called the allegations against Vice President Dick Cheney baseless and accused Democrats of trying to use Halliburton as a distraction. Cheney’s office and the White House characterized the latest criticisms of Halliburton as political.

Golly gee, an investigation that’s politically motivated! A six-year investigation into a two-bit failed real estate deal that had nothing to do with our nation’s foreign policy or even domestic policy was what -- an altruistic endeavor by the Republican Congress to make sure all our leaders are squeaky clean and above board?
