Not just the vibe is dark

There’s nothing like rock ‘n’ roll under the stars, and at Boardner’s, the inveterate Hollywood club many know as merely a divey rock joint, you can get a little darkness with your night.

The club’s music bookings, which run from gloomy rock to British electro to goth-ish thrash, make use of the venue’s patio. It’s equipped with a stage and state-of-the-art sound, thanks to improvements made by Tricia La Belle, who became part owner of the club in 2000.

“It’s a secluded, cozy outdoor environment,” La Belle says, “just the right size for showcasing talent under the stars.”

At Bar Sinister, the decadent Saturday promotion, the patio assumes a New Orleans atmosphere, complete with dry ice “smoke” wafting from a giant fountain. And while the black-clad crowd might look menacing, the breezy space keeps the vibe downright blissful -- which should be a plus when industrial pioneers Ministry celebrate the release of their new album, “Houses of the Mole,” with autograph appearances Saturday.

Boardner’s other live music nights include Wednesday’s ‘80s-flavored Liquid City and Thursday’s rockin’ Debaser.
