Ralph Bunche Peace and Heritage Center Opens

City officials on Friday celebrated the opening of the Ralph Bunche Peace and Heritage Center at the former residence of the Nobel Peace Prize winner in South Los Angeles.
Bunche, who helped write the United Nations charter, became the first African American man to win the Nobel Peace Prize when he was recognized for drafting the 1949 Israeli-Arab armistice.
The house at 1221 E. 40th Place, renovated with city assistance, will serve as a museum and center for the Ralph Bunche Youth Leadership Academy.
