Spill Closes Part of Aliso Beach

From a Times staff writer

A half-mile section of Aliso Beach near Aliso Creek in Laguna Beach was closed after a 10,500-gallon sewage spill, authorities said Friday.

Officials closed a quarter-mile stretch of beach on either side of Aliso Creek, declaring ocean water closed to swimmers, surfers and divers until at least Sunday afternoon, said Larry Honeybourne of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

A sewage line blocked by tree roots in Laguna Woods overflowed early Thursday, spilling sewage into the storm drain, which empties into the ocean at Aliso Beach.
