Capitals Stop Rangers’ Win Streak

Rookie Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and three assists, Olaf Kolzig stopped 37 shots, and the Washington Capitals ended the New York Rangers’ six-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory Saturday night at Washington.

Ovechkin had gone six games without a goal before converting a New York mistake into his 16th of the season at 12:11 of the first period. He had assists on Washington’s next three goals, helping his team end a five-game skid.

Kolzig lost a bid for his 34th career shutout when Petr Prucha scored a power-play goal with 1:43 left.

Dainius Zubrus, Steve Eminger, Jeff Halpern and Matt Pettinger also scored for the Capitals.

Calgary 3, Pittsburgh 2 -- Daymond Langkow scored twice in less than two minutes early in the third period and the Flames won at Pittsburgh for the first time in nearly 17 years. Calgary was 0-10-2 in Pittsburgh since last winning there Feb. 12, 1989.

Florida 4, Chicago 3 -- Olli Jokinen scored a power-play goal at 3:57 of overtime to lift the Panthers at Sunrise, Fla., and hand the Blackhawks their fifth straight road loss.

Phoenix 8, Carolina 4 -- Ladislav Nagy had three goals and two assists for a career-high five points to lead the Coyotes at Glendale, Ariz.

Nashville 4, Philadelphia 3 -- Paul Kariya scored the second goal in the shootout and the Predators beat the Flyers at Nashville.

New Jersey 3, Minnesota 2 -- Viktor Kozlov tied the score late in regulation and scored the only goal in the shootout to lead the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.

San Jose 5, Toronto 4 -- Joe Thornton had two assists for the second straight night with his new team, helping the Sharks rally for the win at Toronto.

Boston 5, Edmonton 4 --David Tanabe’s first goal of the season in overtime lifted the Bruins at Edmonton, Canada.
