Holiday closures

The following schedule will be in effect in observance of the Christmas holiday:
Mail: Post offices will be closed today and Jan. 1 and 2. Only Express Mail will be delivered those days.
Libraries: Libraries will be closed.
Banks: Most will be closed.
Public transportation: Metrolink trains will not run. Orange County Transportation Authority buses will run on a holiday schedule.
Trash collection: Service will be delayed a day this week. Cities served by Waste Management of Orange County and Newport Beach will follow regular schedules.
Government: City, county and federal offices and courts will be closed; most will remain closed until Jan. 3.

The latest effort is coming from the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. They just announced a $3 million program in conjunction with some nonprofits groups to test and clean the soil at homes still standing in the areas impacted by the Eaton Fire.
