Taliban Kill 9 in Attacks; U.S. Soldier Is Hurt

Taliban militants launched three attacks in southeastern Afghanistan that left nine government soldiers and 10 Taliban dead, officials said. An American soldier was wounded.
The rebels have mounted a stubborn insurgency across southern and eastern Afghanistan since U.S. forces ousted the Taliban government in late 2001 for harboring Osama bin Laden and his supporters.
