U.S. Soldier Killed in Gunfight With Militants

An American soldier was killed and three others were wounded in Afghanistan’s Kunar province in a clash with militants who triggered a gunfight when they detonated two homemade bombs.
It was the second U.S. fatality in two days.
The mountainous area near the Pakistani border is viewed as a stronghold of renegade Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a former prime minister who has joined the Taliban in vowing to drive out foreign troops.
