Eight People Killed in Gasoline Protests

Protesters raged in the capital and other Yemeni cities, pelting troops with stones, burning tires and ripping down billboards to protest a government subsidy cut that nearly doubled gasoline prices. At least eight people were killed.
About 300 people blocked roads, halting traffic to the airport. Riot police fired into the air to disperse the crowd, which later re-formed and pelted officers with stones. Police retaliated with water cannons.
Smoke could be seen billowing over the city, and the sound of gunfire came from several neighborhoods.
