Vineyard Pest Found on Southland Plants

Egg clusters of a pest that kills grapevines and other plants were discovered by agricultural inspectors in Sonoma and Napa counties on five different plant shipments from Southern California.
The discovery is raising concerns about efforts to keep the glassy-winged sharpshooter from infesting wine country.
The vineyard pest carries a bacterium that causes Pierce’s disease. The disease kills grapevines and other plants by interfering with their ability to absorb moisture and nutrients.
