Re “A New Day for L.A. Preschools,” March 24: Approved top-rank preschools will get $550 per student per month for a 3 1/2 -hour day. That totals $5,500 per year for a 10-month school year. Our local public school gets about the same funding but has the students for more hours, must hire credentialed teachers and is accountable through state-mandated testing and federal requirements. Something is wrong when our state is spending more money on preschool than on K-12 education.
