City, Eight Others Told to Pay for Bay Cleanup

San Diego water quality officials on Friday compelled the city, Chevron, BP and six other parties to share the estimated $96-million cost of cleaning up tainted sediment south of the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.
The preliminary order by the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board surprised observers. It is part of a decades-long effort to restore a bay filled with toxic chemicals and metals.
