Golden Years May Be Over for ‘Grandpa Gang’

From Times Wire Reports

Three men dubbed the “Grandpa Gang” went on trial in Hagen, Germany, on charges of robbing 14 banks of more than $1.3 million.

Rudolf Richter, 74, and Wilfried Ackermann, 73, admitted to the robberies that began in 1988. Lothar Ackermann, 64, no relation to Wilfried, remained silent. They could get 15 years in prison.

Richter said that he didn’t really need the money but that he was swayed by the others. “I was an idiot,” he said.
