EADS, Raytheon to Bid Jointly for Army Planes

European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co., looking for ways to increase its presence in the world’s largest defense market, will team with Raytheon Co. to bid on a contract for new U.S. Army transport planes.
The two companies announced that Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon would be prime contractor in the bid and Paris-based EADS would assemble and deliver the intratheater aircraft.
EADS, the parent company of leading civil passenger jet maker Airbus, is raising its profile in the United States. Besides trying for the Army transport contract, it is seeking a U.S. partner to bid for a major contract to supply aerial refueling tankers to the Air Force.
Raytheon shares fell 44 cents to $39 on the NYSE.
