Nutrition Expert to Help Safeway Expand Menu

Safeway Inc. said Dean Ornish, the author of books such as “Eat More, Weigh Less,” will help the company develop organic products and expand its ready-to-eat frozen offerings.

Ornish will head Safeway’s Advisory Council on Health and Nutrition, the Pleasanton, Calif.-based company said.

Safeway, with a $100-million ad campaign, its largest ever, is trying to lure upscale customers from supermarkets such as Whole Foods Market Inc. and to keep discounters such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. at bay.
