THE ancient Cambodian temples in Angkor Wat are among the world’s best-preserved, but Alex Bachmann of Los Angeles found this scene of contemporary monastic life nearby in July 2004. “We had a driver-guide, and he said they gather like this every day at 5 p.m. for prayers,” said Bachmann, an engineer, who liked the casual nature of the gathering. “They’re just hanging out.” He took the picture with his Canon G2 simply set on auto.
