Islamic leader says nation in ‘state of war’

Somalia is in “a state of war,” Islamic leader Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys said as his fighters battled U.N.-backed government troops for control of villages. The fighting went on for a third day despite an agreement by both sides to return to peace talks.
A photographer saw 19 bodies of Islamic fighters near the government garrison town of Baidoa. Islamic fighters control the capital, Mogadishu.
