Parliament Abolishes Monarch’s Veto Power

Nepal’s parliament stripped King Gyanendra of his veto power over the legislature, just weeks after he was forced to give up absolute rule, says a parliament notice published today.
The new law scraps the king’s right to reject legislation passed by parliament, and lawmakers will no longer need his approval before signing a bill into law, the notice says.
“The concept of king in parliament has been abolished through law,” said Ram Baran Yadav, a legislator of the Nepali Congress party.
