Man Charged With Tax Evasion Freed on Bail

The owner of an Oxnard company arrested this week on tax evasion charges was released on $10-million bail.

Gene Francis Haas, 54, is charged with evading $20 million in federal income taxes by creating bogus invoices and expenses for Haas Automation Inc. The government wanted to keep him in jail until his trial, arguing that he was a flight risk. But the judge ruled in favor of Haas, who maintains that he is innocent of the charges.
