Kite-Flying Banned in City After 7 Deaths

Authorities in Lahore banned kite-flying after strings hardened with glass powder killed seven people, including two children, before an annual festival, a government statement said.
The ban came after a stray string that was covered with glass powder -- used to cut down other kites -- slit the throat of a 4-year-old boy as he rode through an upscale area on his father’s motorcycle.
The boy, Shayan Ahmad, fell and died before he could be taken to a hospital.
The festival planned for Sunday marks the arrival of spring and usually features kite-flying.
