Still rockin’

IN their heyday, David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen made the best frontman-guitarist tandem in rock ‘n’ roll, arguably in rock’s history.

Let the naysayers have their cynical barbs about the on-again off-again reunion [Quick Takes, Aug. 14]. In the 23 years since their breakup -- not counting the brief 1996 appearance at the MTV Awards show -- no band has replaced the happy-to-be-alive, joyous ecstasy of a Van Halen record or concert. If Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones can keep touring in their 60s, there’s no reason Van Halen cannot put on a show to remember in their 50s.
