They really put on airs

Pretty much every modern rock band would benefit from having fewer boring guitar parts and more outlandish stage moves. Enter the U.S. Air Guitar Championships, which does away with the former in exchange for a cavalcade of high-kicks and ferocious head-banging that’s more fun to watch than any Luddite’s six strings could hope for. Bjorn Turoque, the star of the film “Air Guitar Nation” and de facto ambassador of air guitar culture, will emcee the set and surely have profound advice for aspiring invisible ax-slingers.

U.S. Air Guitar Championships, Key Club, 9039 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 7 p.m. Friday. $12. (310) 274-5800.
