AT&T; unit to pay for illicit charges

A unit of AT&T; Inc., the largest U.S. telephone company, will pay $500,000 and credit customers’ bills to settle claims that it charged cellphone users for calls made after their phones were lost or stolen.
The settlement, filed by California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown in state court in San Francisco, requires AT&T; Mobility to credit customers’ bills for unauthorized calls. AT&T; must investigate the calls, and it agreed to pay $500,000 for the cost of the investigation, according to Brown.
