WellPoint to track drug safety

WellPoint Inc. will use electronic information on medical claims and prescriptions to help regulators track drug safety, a project requested by Congress last year.
Data from WellPoint’s 35 million members will be monitored when the program is fully underway in 2009, the Indianapolis-based insurer said. The goal is to spot drug hazards faster, averting side effects and deaths.
