Reduced water use is requested

Los Angeles County authorities are asking about 150,000 valley residents to turn off their sprinklers and limit overall water use for a week while the Quartz Hill Water Treatment Plant isclosed for construction.
The plant is being expanded to provide about 90 million gallons of water per day, said Melinda Barrett, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Waterworks Districts. Currently the plant supplies about 65 million gallons of water each day.
The plant’s closure -- from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Saturday -- will reduce water supplies to District 40 at least 60%, Barrett said.
She said Antelope Valley residents use about 80% of their water outdoors.
