Mother, 82, shoots daughter then self

San Bernardino officials have identified an 82-year-old woman who killed her apparently sleeping daughter and then herself at her residence Thursday. There were no signs of struggle, a coroner’s office spokesperson said.
Vera Appel of the 9600 block of Carrari Court shot her 49-year-old daughter Christine. Appel left a message on a relative’s answering machine saying she had done something “bad” and had left a key under a doormat outside the house, San Bernardino sheriffs said. The relative called police.
