The last day to register to vote in California is Tuesday.

Absentees: Voters may request mail (absentee) ballots until Jan. 29. Completed ballots must arrive at the elections office by the time the polls close, 8 p.m., on Feb. 5.

Who can vote: The ballot includes local and state measures and the presidential primary candidates.
In the presidential primaries, Republicans may vote only for candidates in their party. Democrats may vote only for Democratic Party candidates. Voters who registered without declaring a political party -- “decline to state” voters -- may request a ballot and cast a vote in either the Democratic or American Independent Party primary.
