Director of San Francisco Zoo quits

The executive director of the San Francisco Zoo has stepped down almost six months after a tiger there killed a teenager and injured two others.
A statement from the zoo says Manuel Mollinedo, who led the San Francisco Zoological Society since 2004, will retire.
Mollinedo and zoo staff were criticized after a tiger escaped and killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr.
It was later revealed that the wall around the tiger’s pen was 4 feet lower than the industry standard.
The society’s board said in its statement that it “greatly appreciates his efforts and wishes him well in his retirement.”
