Re “Activists seek to counter military recruiting pitch,” letters, June 14

To those who want to restrict the access of military recruiters to high school students, I offer this challenge.

Visit any high school campus, public or private, rich area or poor. Observe for 15 minutes during lunch, or any other non-class time. Then tell me that most of the young people you see would not be much better off with some discipline, responsibility and a little self-sacrifice in their lives.

Sadly, the military is probably the last institution willing and able to deliver these rapidly disappearing commodities.
