China claims top spot in Web use

China has surpassed the United States to become the world’s largest Internet market by number of users, a research firm said. The estimate by BDA in Beijing was based on data from China Internet Network Information Center indicating that the country’s online population had risen to 210 million at the end of 2007.

Nielsen/NetRatings put the number of U.S. Web users at 216 million for the same period, BDA said.
