Channel tunnel reopens after fire

Freight trains began rolling through the undersea tunnel that revolutionized travel between France and England, after firefighters extinguished an intense blaze that shut down service for more than a day.
The fire deep under the English Channel cut off the underwater route from the British Isles to continental Europe, leaving sea or air -- the two options before the tunnel opened to passengers in 1994. The blaze broke out Thursday on one of the trains that traverse the 30-mile tunnel.
Five of 14 people injured remained in hospitals.
