CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / HUNTINGTON BEACH

A teenager who was thrown onto the street from the roof of a moving car has died, the Orange County coroner said Sunday.

Christopher Michael Hernandez II was riding on the roof of a Nissan Altima on Friday night when the driver, also 17, made a right turn from Brannen Drive to Wildrose Lane, throwing Hernandez onto the pavement, the Huntington Beach Police Department said.

Hernandez sustained major head and abdominal injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center.

He died Saturday, according to Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal.

Huntington Beach police are investigating the accident, but no arrests have been made.
