Opposition leader John Atta Mills was declared the winner of a closely fought presidential election runoff in the West African nation of Ghana.
Results of Friday’s voting in a final constituency showed Mills, of the National Democratic Congress, narrowly defeated Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party, which also lost its parliamentary majority in an election last month.
“I would want to congratulate all other contestants, especially Nana Akufo-Addo, for giving us a good fight. It is my hope that we will be able to work together to build a better Ghana,” Mills said.
